Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) made major shuffles within its cabinet and removed 5 ministers including Finance Minister Asad Umar, media reports claimed earlier on Monday.
Media reports claimed that "at least five cabinet ministers were changed, including finance, interior and petroleum ministers". The news claimed that Asad Umar was removed as Finance Minister and would be given the Petroleum Ministry instead.
It was further claimed that the decision was taken in light of the performance of the 5 ministers. On March 29, Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced to review performance of all of his cabinet ministers.
But there is no truth in reports that Umar has been removed as the finance minister, government sources said.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry refuted the reports saying that the media should play a more responsible role. "There is no truth in reports regarding changes in posts of federal ministers. The prime minister has the power to change ministers and the media should play a responsible role on this subject."
"Pakistan is going through an important phase and such speculations create confusion which is not beneficial for the country," Chaudhry added.
Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul also said that the reports were false and that the reporters must act professionally.
