Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has made it clear that former president Asif Ali Zardari’s health condition was getting better 'day-by-day', proving all the speculations on social media regarding his health wrong.
The PPP chairman was asked by the media outside the National Assembly about his father’s health, he said: “When he [Zardari] was made a prisoner by this government in Islamabad, we were all extremely worried, however, ever since he has been moved to Karachi he is doing much better.”
He added that upon the insistence of his children, the former president was self-isolating as per the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s directives for the Covid-19 pandemic.
Some videos and forwarded messages were being spread saying that Asif Ali Zardari is in critical condition and PPP is trying to mask the details to prevent ‘hysteria’ within its ranks.
A video of a critically ill patient being visited by CM Murad Ali Shah was doing the rounds on social media with people falsely claiming that it was Zardari. The video actually shows the CM Sindh visiting now deceased PPP leader Qazi Hafizur Rehman at his residence in 2017.
The former president was shifted to a hospital in Karachi from Islamabad in December 2019 after the Islamabad High Court granted him bail on medical grounds. He has been incarcerated in the fake accounts case initiated by the National Accountability Bureau.
PPP leadership assert that Zardari suffers from multiple diseases — including diabetes, cervical lumbar and spondylitis, and sensory and motor neuropathy with impaired proprioception.
