Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League - N (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif has reportedly chosen his grandson and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz’s son Junaid Safdar as his political successor, according to a report by Geo News Urdu.
Junaid Safdar recently graduated from London School of Economics (LSE) where he studied courses related to US Foreign Policy and political economy.
Unconfirmed reports suggest Nawaz Sharif made the decision because he does not want to give the reins of the party to someone outside the Sharif family. Maryam Nawaz currently faces court cases due to which her ability to lead the party is uncertain.
Before his graduation, Junaid Safdar completed his under-graduation from Durham University and then studied for a Master’s degree at University College London.
