LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s youngest daughter, Mahnoor Safdar, has tied the knot with Azan Jabbar, son of businessman and industrialist Jabbar Khalid, in a private nikah ceremony held at the Sharif family’s Jati Umra residence near Lahore. The ceremony took place on Saturday, September 12, and was attended by close members of the Sharif and Khalid families, relatives and a limited number of invited guests. The family opted for a private gathering, keeping the occasion largely away from public attention.
Mahnoor is the youngest daughter of Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar. She has generally maintained a low public profile and has remained largely outside the political spotlight surrounding her family.
Several prominent members of the Sharif family attended the nikah. Among those reported to have been present were PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, along with other relatives and close family members. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb were also reported to have attended the family gathering.
The ceremony was held in keeping with the family’s decision to make the occasion an intimate affair. Mahnoor’s wedding comes shortly after she completed her higher education in London. She recently graduated from SOAS University of London, where she studied anthropology. Maryam Nawaz travelled to London earlier this month to attend her daughter’s graduation ceremony and publicly expressed her happiness over the academic achievement.
Unlike some high-profile weddings associated with the Sharif family in recent years, Mahnoor’s nikah was not accompanied by extensive public celebrations or a large political gathering. Videos and photographs from the nikah ceremony have also circulated on social media, prompting messages of congratulations for the newly married couple.
With the nikah now solemnised, the families have not publicly announced details of any subsequent wedding reception or other formal celebrations. The marriage brings together two prominent Pakistani families, with Mahnoor coming from one of the country’s best-known political households and Azan Jabbar from an established business family. The private ceremony concluded with family members and guests extending their congratulations and best wishes to the newly married couple.
