The construction firm that's been building the much-delayed Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) has been awarded three more projects in Islamabad over 'lowest bids', it emerged on Monday.
Maqbool Associates-Calsons has been awarded the projects, after which it will construct Rawal Dam interchange, expand the Korang Bridge as well as the PWD Underpass at a cost of Rs 1.2 billion, Rs 628.5 million, and Rs 420 million, respectively, The News reported. The projects were awarded by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) due to the lowest bids by the company.
The report revealed that the Calsons is the same company, which according to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), was rejected by Shehbaz Sharif administration to build the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme. The former minister was accused of rejecting the company to award it to another favorable one.
In May, Prime Minister Imran Khan had ordered the completion of the project without further delay. He had issued the remarks after he was given a briefing by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government regarding the project.
According to a news report, the premier was apprised that the civil works had entirely been completed. It comprised of a 32 kilometre road, an underpass and the overhead track. He, however, was told that the full completion is facing a delay due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Following the briefing, KP Information Minister Shaukat Yousufzai was quoted as saying PM Imran had expressed satisfaction on the 100 percent completion of the civil works.
