Federal bureaucracy has been creating hurdles in the appointment of chief executive officer of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority, that too before the expected visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan.
According to a news report published in The Express Tribune, the issue of appointment of the CEO of CPEC authority, has further complicated matters for the new management as the authority is facing serious financial and human-resource-related issues in its infancy.
The newspaper quoted sources as saying that CPEC Authority Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa and Minister for Planning Asad Umar have decided to appoint Ghulam Dastagir Baloch as the CEO of CPEC authority. However, top brass of bureaucracy has created a blockade in the appointment and has approached Chairman Asim Bajwa to pick someone from Pakistan Administrative Service as Ghulam Baloch is an officer of Pakistan Railways.
CPEC Authority has largely remained dysfunctional so far due to the administrative and financial constraints. All this is happening at a time when Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit Pakistan in the next three to four months to give a new push to CPEC.
