Doctors of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif are currently struggling to get his platelet count up to the required level for him to be able to travel.
The former premier is currently awaiting the removal of his name from the Exit Control List. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Nawaz Sharif had been given a high dose of steroids in preparation of his expected departure, which would possibly be today.
However, Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that doctors had warned repeated administration of high doses of steroids could be dangerous.
The PML-N spokesperson added that a drop in Nawaz Sharif’s platelets was continuing to worry doctors and they were uncertain as to how to approach his treatment, as they wanted to prevent damage to his health while trying to get his platelet count up.
Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that if the former premier’s health worsens any more, it would be impossible to take him abroad for treatment.
Meanwhile, doctors have stated that with the passage of time, threats to Nawaz’s life may increase and it was important to send him abroad immediately.
The former prime minister had been granted bail for eight weeks in the Al-Azizia Steels Mills case. He had earlier been given bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.
Moreover, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has stated that legal obstacles to Nawaz Sharif’s departure were being removed. “We pray to God for his recovery, so that he returns with good health and takes part in politics,” he added.
