PESHAWAR: Peshawar police thwarted an attempt to smuggle dead sheep to Khyber district on Saturday by seizing a vehicle and arresting three persons at Hayatabad.
According to the police, these dead sheep were to be supplied to famous restaurants in Karkhano Market through Wazir Dandh route.
The Karkhano Market [located in Khyber district but adjacent to Peshawar city] is known for being a trade centre where traders from every part of Pakistan come to purchase and sell items imported/ smuggled from Afghanistan via Torkham border. But it has been found that the restaurants in the market are using the meat of dead sheep.
Soon after the arrest, the Khyber district administration issued an alert to take action against the restaurants involved in the practice.
Meanwhile, the restaurant owner arrested in connection with the seizure is an Afghan national and belongs to the Shinwari tribe.
