The number of doctors infected by the novel Coronavirus has reached 146 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, of which 70 are from the Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. These figures do not count nurses, paramedics, technicians and other staff.
Peshawar has had some 160 deaths due to the virus, the highest in the province as well as the most deaths registered in any one district of the country. Province-wide deaths from Covid-19 crossed 267, with confirmed infections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa now well over 5,000.
Last week, the gynaecological ward at Lady Reading Hospital had been temporarily sealed after a number of Coronavirus cases had been detected among doctors.
Journalist Nazar Ul Islam took to Twitter to write that the gynaecological ward at Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, had become the “Wuhan of Pakistan”:
