Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the slogans used by the Aurat March are against the 'values of this society'. Awan said that she supported women's rights, but activists of the Aurat March needed to reconsider using banners and placards with 'uncalled-for slogans'.
Further, the Punjab CM's adviser said that the PTI government envisioned a society where the rights of women were guarded as per the principles laid out by Islam.
Firdous Ashiq Awan also called on the women to ensure their 'honour' by working for a 'balance' in the society.
Aurat Marches were held in all major cities of Pakistan to mark International Working Women's Day on Monday. Thousands of women took to the streets to demand action against gender-based violence and discrimination. The theme for this year's Aurat March was healthcare.
