The National Institute of Health (NIH) has accelerated the process of testing people in the capital for coronavirus because the number of suspected patients has increased exponentially.
Dawn reported that teams of health workers from NIH have been conducting tests at a local level with the assistance of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI).
According to the Deputy Mayor Syed Zeeshan Naqvi, who is collaborating with the NIH teams, free tests for all suspected patients were conducted in four union councils of G-6 and G-7.
He also said that the samples of almost 400 people from the four union councils have been collected on Monday.
Mr. Naqvi added that 400 people were selected randomly and the results will be issued to them in a week. This exercise will continue for one month during which all the 50 union councils will be covered.
However, he said that paranoia still prevails among the public as they reckon that the government might 'take' them if they test positive.
He said that people should instead benefit from this activity and get themselves tested free of cost.
Local government has also been trying to spread awareness about the coronavirus pandemic and how important it is to get tested if you’re showing symptoms, through elected representatives programme.
