A two-and-half-year-old girl Zainab, whose body was found in fields, was sexually assaulted before being killed by unknown suspect(s) in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said police.
The body of Zainab was found in Peshawar in the limits of Daudzai police station after she went missing on Tuesday in Sheikh Kallay Qilla area of Charsadda.
Dawn said that the Prang police got information about the body of a girl lying in Jabba Korona area. The Prang and Daudzai police recovered the body and shifted it to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar for postmortem.
According to ARY News, the medical reports confirmed that the girl was raped before she was murdered. "Her corpse was mutilated and her chest and abdomen were slit open with a sharp object," the news channel reported. The DNA samples sent to Khyber Medical College confirmed that Zainab was raped 18 hours before the body was found, it added.
The father of the slain minor said that the family did not have enmity with anyone. He demanded that the government catch the culprit so he could ask him what his daughter had done to him that he committed such a crime. "Today it is my Zainab, tomorrow another Zainab could suffer this," he lamented.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan took notice of the incident and directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Sanaullah Abbasi and other authorities to immediately arrest those involved. The CM said the culprits would not be able to escape the reach of the law and the family would be provided complete justice.
As per statistics collected by Naya Daur from the Ministry of Human Rights under the Right of Access to Information Act 2017, a total of 543 child abuse cases were reported in the past two-and-a-half years; of which 400 boys age between five to 15 year and 143 girls age between four to 10 years stood victim of child abuses.
The ratio of violence against boys is 73 percent while 26 percent of girls were victims of sexual and child abuse during the respective period.
In a year-wise breakup, 108 cases of violence against children were reported in the first six months of 2020; of which 60 boys age between five to 15 and 48 girls age between four to 10 were ‘stood victim’ of child abuse. The ratio of violence against boys remained higher than girls in the first half of 2020, the statistics reveal.
According to the SSDO report, a non-profit organisation working for women and children’s rights, covering the period of January to June 2020, violence against children has increased by 4 percent in Pakistan.
Similarly, Sahil, a non-profit organisation working for the rights of children, in the 2019 report states that at least eight children are abused per day in Pakistan. It states that children are most vulnerable to abuse in the age group 6-15 years, adding that the number of cases of male victims reported was much higher than that of girls.
