Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) chief Nawabzada Shahzain Bugti as his Special Assistant (SAPM) in an apparent bid to expedite efforts to initiate a dialogue with Baloch insurgents. The prime minister had expressed the desire to hold negotiations with the 'angry' Baloch earlier this week.
Shahzain Bugti is a member of the lower house of the Parliament and represents NA-259, Dera Bugti-cum-Kohlu-cum-Barkhan-cum-Sibbi-cum-Lehri. The Cabinet Division has issued a notification formalising his appointment as the SAPM on Reconciliation and Harmony in Balochistan.
Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that that he was thinking of holding a dialogue with the 'insurgents' in Balochistan, adding that the insurgency in the province would not have been a cause for concern if its development was taken seriously.
He had expressed these views while speaking to a gathering of local elders and businessmen in Gwadar during a one-day visit to the city.
