Following the decision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to sack party leader Jahangir Tareen as the chairman of the Agriculture Task Force, the latter while acknowledging the defeat of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that 2013 General Elections were not rigged.
A couple of days after a report of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on wheat, sugar crises and the beneficiaries of government’s subsidies made headlines, Jahangir Tareen in an interview to journalist Nadeem Malik on Samaa TV, said: “We [PTI] lost the 2013 General Elections badly. We made a lot of noise about rigging, although in reality only a few constituencies were rigged.”
The PTI leader also acknowledged that he was no longer as close to Prime Minister Imran Khan as he used to be but maintained that the premier was still his friend and that he continues to stand by the PM's cause.
"I'm in touch with Imran Khan on WhatsApp and that is likely to continue. I have no issues with him, the party or his vision for the country. As prime minister, it's his discretion to work with whoever he wants. I have no bitterness with his decision making. He is the prime minister of Pakistan, after all," Tareen said during the show of journalist Meher Bokhari on DAWN News TV.
A veteran journalist Najam Sethi, while commenting on the said revelation of Jahangir tareen said, “JKT confirms that 2013 elections were not rigged as alleged by IK. Judicial Commission headed by ex CJP Nasir ul Mulk also rejected IK’s charges. Penti penture kithay gaye? [Where are 35 punctures?]”
