The Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights has taken note of the alleged torture and death of the person who was recorded breaking into an ATM machine.

On Monday, a man who had been recovered from a torture cell run by Gujjarpura Police succumbed to his injuries.
Moreover, on Monday, a man arrested from Lahore’s P.F Colony, who had been arrested by North Cantt Police died due to injuries from alleged torture by police.
According to the Pakistani constitution, Pakistan Penal Code and Police Order 2002, torture or violence by police officials is strictly prohibited and is punishable by imprisonment up to ten years with fine.

The chair of the committee, Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, has ordered the inspector general of police (IGP) Punjab and the Rahimyar Khan district police officer to appear before the committee on Sept 12.
