Former Pakistani cricketer Aamer Sohail has accused renowned sportsman Wasim Akram of ‘intentionally’ underperforming in ICC World Cups of 1996, 1999, and 2003 to ensure the defeat of Pakistan in all the mega-events respectively.
The digital media outlet ProPakistani reported that Aamer Sohail said that if Wasim Akram would have been sincere, Pakistan could have easily won 4 World Cups in a row from 1992 to 2003. “There was this persistence before every World Cup to remove the captain and put Wasim in that role,” he said.
Aamer Sohail claimed that the biggest contribution by Wasim Akram for Pakistan cricket was making sure that Pakistan does not win even a single World Cup after 1992.
The former cricketer after all these years, has urged the authorities to investigate the concerned matter and bring the culprits to justice.
Pakistan lost their quarter-final to India in 1996, final to Australia in 1999, and was knocked out in the opening round in 2003 World Cup. Aamer Sohail represented Pakistan in 47 international test matches and 156 one day internationals.
