Dawn’s Islamabad office was attacked by a crowd chanting slogans against the newspaper and threatening action against it. The newspaper's editor Zaffar Abbas took to Twitter to report what he called an orchestrated demonstration.

Earlier today, the Senate Functional Committee had directed the Islamabad Police to investigate the attack on Dawn’s office earlier this week. The committee specified that the criminal elements in the attack should receive attention.
On Monday, the office of Dawn in Islamabad was attacked by a mob. This came in the aftermath of the publication’s coverage of the London Bridge attack where they labelled the attacker as a man of Pakistani origin.
Journalists in the major cities of Pakistan protested against the government’s inaction regarding the attack.
Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokar has directed the IG Islamabad today to investigate the attack.
Khokar addressed a press conference on the same day along with DIG Islamabad. The DIG briefed the reporters and stated that the police response to the attack was a quick one. There were police officers at the scene as soon as they got the tip.
He further added that the police did not investigate the case further as there was no FIR registered by the organization for this case.
PPP leader Farhatullah Babar also addressed the senate committee where he pointed out that mob was chanting slogans in favour of a certain security organization. He then went on to say that this attack happened twenty-four hours Farhan Virk’s tweet that targeted Dawn.
Khokar also mentioned this was an attempt to silence the media.
Dawn has had a tumultuous week. Their circulation in Defence Housing Authority was also reportedly banned.
