Bangladesh Becomes South Asia’s First Muslim Country To Make It To Miss Universe
Bangladesh has made it to the Miss Universe beauty pageant 2019, making it the first Muslim-majority country in South Asia to do so.

In the inaugural edition of Miss Universe Bangladesh, Shirin Akter Shela was crowned at the International Convention City.

Shela would be representing Bangladesh at the 68th Miss Universe competition. This would be the first time Bangladesh would be among the participants.

Shela, a third-year physics student, was crowned by Indian actor Sushmita Sen, who had herself won the title of Miss Universe in 1994.

During her remarks at the event, Sushmita Sen stated, “I am very glad to be a part of this momentous occasion. Tonight, we make history. Do you want to know how? We make history because for the first time, a girl from Bangladesh will represent this beautiful country at Miss Universe competition.”

She added, “Twenty-five years ago, I represented India at that same competition, and my life was changed forever.”

Other countries who would be competing for the Miss Universe 2019 crown include Nepal, India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan has never been part of the competition.
