Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on Wednesday sealed nine places, including Pakistan Sports Board and Saudi-Pak Tower, to combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus, a notification issued from the deputy commissioner’s office in Islamabad read.
According to the notification, the decision to seal these nine areas was taken after receiving positive test results for Covid-19 from people in these areas, as per the National Institute of Health (NIH) lists. The decision was taken after consultation with the Covid nerve center epidemiologist and the health department. The areas were sealed in accordance with the powers conferred under Epidemic Disease Act, 1958.
Along with Saudi-Pak Tower and Pakistan Sports Board, the notification listed the following seven places that were sealed: Gulrajgan in Chatta Bakhtawar, street no 13-c National Police Foundation E-11/4 , Street no 26, I-10, Street No 111, G-9/4 Islamabad, Street No 54, G-7/2, Block No 6, PWD Colony and Street No 64, G-6/4. The notification said that Islamabad Police, Rangers and Pakistan army are requested to cordon off the areas to ensure the safety of public.
It is pertinent to mention that the country capital is currently at the greatest risk of the spread of the deadly virus. In the first week of June, it has already reported the highest number of infections since the start of the pandemic. It reported a record 226 new cases on May 31, before it went up to at almost 300 cases everyday for the first three days of June, reaching a total count of 3,188 confirmed cases and 34 deaths.
