‘Conservative Oppression’: When In UET Cover Your Head
The Institute of Business and Management (IBM) of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) has enforced a new ban on wearing jeans and casual shirts for all its students.

According to a notification on a new dress code, it is compulsory for female students to wear a scarf or dubatta whereas a ban has been imposed on sleeveless shirts and capri pants. It has also made it mandatory for male students to wear shalwar kameez on Fridays.

The notification said that the dress code was approved by the competent authority and would be observed from March 11, 2019.

Moreover, the varsity management has directed the male students to wear formal dressing. They have been directed to wear pant, shirt and coat, according to the notice

“In case of violation, Rs 5,000 fine will be imposed and [the offender] will not be allowed to attend the class that day,” the notification reads.

The new dress code has drawn as ire of social media users with many people calling it “conservative oppression”.
