Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has been charged Rs451,135 by the Punjab government for ‘damaging’ flowers , plants, pots and trees of historical Liaquat Bagh during its rally on Dec 27 marking Benazir Bhutto’s death anniversary.
This is the first time in the history that any political party had to pay for damages to Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) of Rawalpindi. PHA had never claimed any damages in the past.
PHA has alleged that lightening system and fauna and flora of the garden were destroyed by the attendees of the jalsa.
It claimed Rs24,022 for damaging lights and tiles in the park, Rs366,700 and Rs60,414 for damaging trees and plants and water supply pipes respectively.
