The consumer prices in March increased to their highest level in five years. Rupee depreciation and rise in energy prices are fueling inflation. The poor and fixed income groups will suffer the most. These inflationary trends will continue as the government has no choice but to accept the conditions that an incoming IMF package will entail. The PTI government from day one has demonstrated glaring unpreparedness to deal with the economic crisis that it inherited from the previous government. This will incur a severe political cost for the government. PM Khan’s team is not delivering and it needs to change.
