The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said that six soldiers and five civilians have been injured in an exchange of fire at the Pak-Afghan border between security forces of both countries.
According to the ISPR, the incident occurred in the border districts of Afghanistan’s Kunar and Pakistan’s Chitral regions.
The ISPR statement said that Afghan security forces engaged in mortar and heavy machine gun fire from the Nari district in Kunar, targeting civilian population in Arundu village of Chitral.
Pakistani troops in their response targeted the Afghan border posts in Kandi and Dilbar, which resulted in ‘substantial damage’ to the border posts. The crossfire was stopped after ‘engagement at the military level’.
In September, an improvised explosive device explosion in Mohmand district near the Pak-Afghan border had killed a major and sepoy of the Pakistan Army.
In the same month, militants had fired on Pakistan Army soldiers in two separate incidents, resulting in the martyrdom of four soldiers of the Pakistan Army.
After the attacks, the Afghan Charge d’ Affairs had been summoned by the Foreign Office of Pakistan, which lodged against the firing incidents.
Pakistan has fenced a 900-kilometre-long stretch of the Pak-Afghan border in an attempt to curb cross-border movement of miscreants and terrorists.
