Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said on Monday that circumstantial evidence pointed at a decline in the number of patients admitted to hospitals with coronavirus, despite a recent spike in the cases in the country.
The minister told Dawn that the number of patient inflow at the hospital had decreased. In this regard, he referred to the feedback received from Islamabad, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding they did not receive a 'proper feedback' from Sindh. He added that the tests conducted daily have been increased to nearly 25,000 countrywide, up from the previous number of 20,000 the previous week.
Explaining further, Umar said the parameters that reveal about the virus' spread are: number of positive cases in a day, patients admitted to hospitals and those on ventilator. It also includes the number of deaths in a day. And, he added, all indicators are positive that the numbers are on the decline. The minister further said he had spoken to Punjab's Yasmin Rashid, who told him about a drop in the number of the patients being admitted to the hospitals.
He expressed satisfaction at the decline in the cases, but expressed worry that the masses may stop taking the precautions to protect against the infections.
According to latest statistics, confirmed the coronavirus cases in the country stand at 209,307, with 4,304 deaths and 98,503 recoveries.
