Rawalpindi police registered a case against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers for raising slogans against state institutions during the December 27 Liaquat Bagh rally.
According to media reports, the workers have been charged under Section 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which pertains to ‘statements conducing to public mischief’.
The complaint was registered by a police official present at the rally for security purposes. According to the FIR, around 10-12 PPP workers raised slogans against state institutions.
PPP member Mehreen Bhutto, in talks to media, stated that the ‘selected government’ should be ashamed for registering cases against PPP workers.
She stated that they never feared these tactics of the government and would not be fearful of them in the future.
PPP leader Palwasha Khan told media that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had gotten desperate after watching PPP’s power show in Punjab. She added that Bilawal’s rally at Liaquat Bagh had started a new political movement in Punjab.
