A violent mob attacked members of the Ahmadi community in Piroo Chak, Sialkot, late Saturday evening, setting fire to homes, shops, and vehicles. The incident left one person with a bullet injury and at least five others seriously wounded.
Witnesses said tensions escalated after locals obstructed the burial of an Ahmadi woman, Qudsia Tabassum. The dispute reportedly triggered widespread unrest, with dozens of attackers storming the neighbourhood armed with sticks and firearms.
During the assault, several dwellings were torched along with a tractor, a car, and a Suzuki pickup parked outside one of the houses. Victims claimed the mob fired indiscriminately before resorting to arson, leaving residents scrambling to save their families and belongings.
Police confirmed the attack and said that the named suspects, along with a larger group of unidentified individuals, were involved in the violence. A case has been registered, and sections of the Pakistan Penal Code as well as the Anti-Terrorism Act have been invoked.
Officials added that reinforcements were rushed to the scene to restore order, while raids are being conducted to apprehend the culprits. “No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands,” a police spokesperson said, assuring that action would be taken against those responsible.
The attack has sparked concern among rights groups, who urged authorities to ensure the safety of vulnerable communities. Human rights activists condemned the violence, warning that continued hostility toward Ahmadis poses a serious threat to religious harmony.
