Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Nazir Chauhan, who is a member of the Jahangir Khan Tareen group of the ruling party, was booked by police after Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior and Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar lodged a complaint against him over a statement he made during a TV appearance.
As per the FIR, Akbar alleged that Nazir Chauhan levelled accusations concerning his [Akbar's] religious beliefs during a talk show on television. Shahzad Akbar said that these allegations have put his life at risk.
The FIR includes sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 189 (threat of injury to public servant), 298 (making statements with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings) and 153 (provoking to cause riot) of the Pakistan Penal Code. It was registered at the Race Course police station.
The FIR says, “The offence has been committed to cause injury to the reputation, body, property and mind of the applicant and cause hatred in public at large towards the applicant."
