The Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has revealed massive irregularities of public funds in federal ministries to the tune of more than Rs 12 billion, while the embezzlement in government funds stand at Rs 270 billion.
The report of the AGP has covered fiscal year 2018-19, the first year of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and recommended tough actions against those involved, Dawn reported.
It would be submitted to the president and the parliament in a few days. It went on to added the audit teams were not provided with the details of some of the entities and the accounts.
The report pointed out 56 cases of misappropriation of public funds and other similar fictitious payments totaling to Rs 12.561 billiob. It also revealed that there were 98 cases involving recovery to the tune of Rs 79.59 billion, whereas there were 37 instances of non-production of record to the mark of Rs17.97 billion. The AGP also unearthed as many as 35 cases relating to weak financial management totaling to Rs152.21bn.
Commenting on the report, a minister claimed that the irregularities by previous governments were involved money up to the mark of Rs 1000 billion. Similarly, according to Geo News, Minister for Industries Hammad Azhar said the 'graph had come down by as much as 80 percent', while admitting that the government needed to take more steps on it.
Talking to Naya Daur, former auditor Arsalan Haneef said the report is a combination of certain irregularities. “It may include non-compliance, violation of rules pertaining to competition and similar mismanagement."
