Anchor Shahzeb Khanzada has responded to the Rs1 billion defamation notice sent to him by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen. Khanzada has maintained that he stands by what he said in his television programme. He added that his statements were backed by documents and news reports.
On Jan 25, Jahangir Tareen sent defamation notices worth Rs1 billion each to anchors Khanzada and Waseem Badami for making “false imputations” in their news programmes. The notices called upon the anchorpersons to withdraw their “defamatory imputations” and tender a “proper public apology” in their shows.
On Tuesday during his show, Khanzada said he won't apologise for his statements, and denied the claims made by Tareen in his notice.
“In his notice, Tareen has maintained that we did not bother to reach out to him or to invite him on the show to get his comments on the hike in sugar prices,” Khanzada said. He denies this claim and shared multiple screenshots where he had invited Tareen on the show.
