National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has made the use of face mask compulsory in all the public spaces to curb the spread of Covid-19. The decision came on Wednesday after an increase in the cases of the virus.
According to the report presented by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the positivity rate of coronavirus is 80% in eleven major cities of the country. These cities include Quetta, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Peshawar, Islamabad, Hyderabad, Mirpur, Karachi, Gilgit and Muzaffarabad. There are 4374 lockdowns in these 11 cities currently. It is feared that the number of lockdowns may increase in the coming days. The NCOC is also concerned about the increased positivity ratio and the death ratio of patients of coronavirus.
Earlier, Special Assistant to the PM on Health Dr Faisal Sultan had also expressed concerns over the growing number of cases in the country. He had told the media on Tuesday that the second wave of coronavirus is already here and the government is planning strict restrictions in the coming days.
He added that the restrictions could include the closure of markets by the evening and fine on the violations of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
330,200 confirmed cases of Covid-19 had been reported in Pakistan to date, from which 6759 people lost their lives in the battle against virus. 825 new cases and 14 deaths were reported on Tuesday.
