Pakistan Muslim League - N (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz and former president Asif Ali Zardari and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s daughter Aseefa-Bhutto Zardari will represent their parties in the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Multan jalsa to be held on November 30.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had gone in self isolation after testing positive for Coronavirus. He will therefore not attend the Multan rally in person, which is why Aseefa will participate in the gathering.
Maryam Nawaz and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari’s participation is being considered significant because this is the first time daughters of two former PMs will collectively lead a rally.
Meanwhile, Jang News quoted a source as saying that PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman thanked PMLN supreme leader Nawaz Sharif for instructing Maryam Nawaz to attend the PDM Multan rally despite her grandmother’s death. Analysts believe that this move has served to negate the impression of rifts within the opposition alliance. Fazlur Rehman reportedly told Nawaz Sharif that the Multan rally will strengthen the opposition alliance.
Moreover, two former prime ministers Yousaf Raza Gilani and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will also attend the jalsa. The Multan rally is therefore being termed important by observers.
