Supreme Court Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, while hearing the case pertaining to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s extension, has stated that the army chief belonged at the border, but he was in the Prime Minister House last night at the meeting to draft a new summary regarding his extension.
On Wednesday, the federal cabinet held a meeting and came up with a new summary regarding the COAS's extension, removing all the legal loopholes highlighted by the Supreme Court during the hearing of the case that day.
According to a report in The News, the fresh summary, had replaced the words ‘re-appointment’ with ‘extension in service’.
A report in The Frontier Post said that the meeting in which the summary was drafted was headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan, and the Chief of Army Staff had himself attended the meeting.
Moreover, a report in Thecurrent.pk said that during Thursday’s hearing, CJ Asif Khosa stated that the job of the army chief was to protect the country’s borders, but he was instead at the PM House getting his summary fixed.
He further expressed regret over the fact that the army chief’s time was being wasted due to the government’s incompetence when it was a crucial time for the security of the country.
During Wednesday’s hearing, CJ Khosa had also remarked that judges who took up the case were being accused of working on an Indian agenda.
