Karachi: Sindh police on Friday booked three Imams (prayer leaders) in the provincial capital for not abiding by the provincial government’s ban on Friday prayers and other religious congregations.
The ban on religious gatherings and mass prayers was announced by the provincial government on Thursday. The decision was made after consultations with clerics.
However, there were reports of violations in some areas. Ssveral people defied the ban and were seen flocking to the mosques to offer prayers. The police officials eventually let the violators in instead of dispersing them.
Sindh has reported 442 cases of the novel coronavirus cases. Most of the patients are Iran-returnees but the province has also seen cases where the virus was transmitted locally.
