Security forces conducted a search and targeted operation on Monday in the Lajbouk Kas area following reports of militant activity, according to local residents. Heavy gunfire was reportedly heard as police engaged militants who had entered the Kas Ghwargi area of Union Council Lajbouk.

Eyewitnesses said militants attacked police vans, setting two ablaze with oil, while a video circulating on social media showed militants using a loudspeaker to warn residents to stay indoors and avoid supporting law enforcement. The footage urged locals to allow militants and security forces to confront each other without interference.

The incidents have heightened fear among residents, who voiced concern over the deteriorating law and order situation. Local elders have convened a jirga on Wednesday to discuss possible measures for restoring peace in the area.

In a separate development, two cases of snatching were reported last night, with militants allegedly robbing citizens of mobile phones and cash at gunpoint.

Despite the unrest, police at the local station assured The Friday Times that the situation is under control, emphasising that “peace is our first priority.” Residents, however, urged law enforcement to prevent militants from expanding their presence in Lajbouk and called for a concrete strategy to ensure lasting security.

Meanwhile, the search and targeted operation continues in Upper Dir, where local police, with community support, successfully cleared militant hideouts in Hatan Dara and other areas. Authorities said the joint operations aim to eliminate militant networks and restore stability across both districts.
