International airline Emirates has announced that it has temporarily suspended all the passenger services from the country, after several Pakistani passengers who travelled to Hong Kong tested positive for the fatal coronavirus.
The airline issues a press release on Tuesday night saying, “We regret to temporarily suspend passenger services from Pakistan, from 24 June 04:00 Pakistan LT, until early next week. In the meantime, Emirates will continue to operate repatriation flights into Pakistan as per the announced schedule, and continue to operate cargo services that support the trade and movement of goods between Pakistan, UAE and our global network.”
The press statement further noted that the airline would remain in contact with the relevant authorities of Pakistan on requirements to resume services for travelers. “Affected customers will be contacted directly by our service team. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” it added.
Digital news outlet Pakistan Aviation reported that Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection has released a statement saying that at least 29 fresh cases of Pakistani residents were reported. 26 of those infected patients came back to Pakistan on Saturday, and remaining three on Sunday.
