Recently-appointed Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan has excused himself from representing the federal government in the presidential reference against Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa, on basis of a 'conflict of interest'.
He then asked the apex court to accept the government's plea seeking permission for Additional Attorney General Amir Rehman to argue the case, saying that Rehman has been preparing the case. But the additional attorney general has said that he would be abroad for an official visit till March 20, requesting the court to adjourn the hearing till a date after that.
Justice Umer Ata Bandial set the next hearing's date for March 30, saying that one of the judges on the bench will be away after March 20. "We will hear the case upon his return," he said. He urged the government representatives to be present in the court on the said date as the hearing would not be further delayed.
Meanwhile, Justice Bandial has also announced that the court would also hear the request for action against Minister for Law and Justice Farogh Nasim on March 30.
Earlier on Saturday, Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) had called on Prime Minister Imran Khan to dismiss Law Minister Farogh Naseem after the controversy over remarks by former attorney general Anwar Mansoor Khan against judges of the apex court.
