Religious scholar Tahir Ashrafi, who was recently appointed as Prime Minister's Special Representative on Religious Harmony, has been given the additional charge of 'Middle East Affairs'.
A notification was issued in this regard on Wednesday. The announcement said that his designation has been modified to Special Assistant to the PM on Religious Harmony/Middle East.
The earlier notification said that the appointment was on an honorary basis.
A few days before his appointment as the PM's representative, Ashrafi was in Saudi Arabia with some observers speculating that his visit may be part of Pakistan's efforts to appease KSA after Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi's strong statement that Islamabad will seek support of other Muslim countries if Riyadh doesn't support its stance on Kashmir.
