Umar Akmal, after having been suspended under the anti-corruption regulations of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is reported to be pleading guilty to the offense of having met a bookie in the lead-up to Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Akmal had appeared before the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the PCB after having been suspended, just ahead of the fifth PSL, earlier this week.
Although he initially refused to admit to any such offense on his part, he was confronted with evidence against him. The evidence consisted of photos, call recordings and voice notes. Thereafter, Akmal changed his position on the matter and admitted that he had been offered money in exchange for match-fixing.
Some sources claim that the amount he was offered was around Rs. 50 million before the first match of PSL 5. The management of the Quetta Gladiators, Akmal's team in the PSL, were also taken on board before action was initiated against him.
