A local organization of traders has filed a petition in Lahore High Court (LHC), seeking aid from Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Coronavirus Relief Fund that was announced primarily for the lockdown-hit daily wagers.
According to a news report published in The News, Secretary General Central Organisation of Traders Naeem Mir submitted a petition in LHC, arguing that people from all walks of life have been facing the crisis due to the coronavirus lockdown. He said the prime minister has not announced any relief package for the traders, although, the daily wagers and the under-privileged families have received Rs 12,000 during the lockdown period.
The traders’ leader was of the view that the government ignored traders altogether who have suffered a lot due to the pandemic crisis. He asked the court to order the government to also compensate the affected traders from the Prime Minister Coronavirus Relief Fund.
On April 1, PM Imran set up a relief fund to fight coronavirus and to help the affectees of the lockdown enforced due to the deadly virus. The prime minister urged the Pakistanis to make contributions towards the national cause. "Prime Minister’s COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Fund-2020 has been set up to help us fight this pandemic. I want everyone to donate towards this fund which will be used to take care of all those who have been made destitute by the lockdown," the premier said.
