Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid has said that the lives of 20 mainstream politicians in Pakistan are in danger as a high [threat] alert has been issued. The politicians named by the minister as potential targets include Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
According to Rasheed, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has been informed of the threat. Sheikh Rasheed expressed these views while taking to reporters in Islamabad on Monday.
Rasheed said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman did not have a political future, adding that his 'dreams' will never come true. Criticising the opposition for its refusal to hold talks with the government over its planned long march, the interior minister asked as to whom the PDM would like to negotiate with if not the prime minister. Rasheed added that the solution to the current issues will be found in the Parliament and called on the opposition to participate in the Senate polls next year. He went on to say that PM Imran Khan will get a two-thirds majority in the upper house of the parliament in case the opposition boycotts the elections.
