The number of coronavirus deaths in Pakistan is decreasing across the country, with its biggest province Punjab reporting zero Covid fatalities in the past 24 hours.
Primary and Secondary Health Care Department quoted by Express Tribune claimed that the province registered 58 new cases of coronavirus, taking the provincial tally of cases to 95,800.
“There was no fatality from the coronavirus. The death toll is 2,186,” said the daily update. The spokesperson added that so far 848,779 tests had been conducted, while the number of those recovering from the contagion had reached 90,210.
According to the health department, 24 cases were reported in Lahore, 7 in Rajanpur, 6 in Rawalpindi, 4 each in Multan and Faisalabad, 3 each in Gujranwala and Sheikhupura, 2 in Jhang and 1 each in Gujarat, Sargodha, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh and Sahiwal.
On the other hand, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) reported at least 513 Covid-19 cases from across the country. It also reported eight more deaths -- seven in Sindh and one in Gilgit-Baltistan -- due to the contagion over the past 24 hours.
The low number of cases and death has also raised suspicions, especially the testing rate. Pakistan is consistently under testing despite WHO’s protests.
It is testing at the same levels as in early June despite having the surplus capacity to test more. Punjab and KP particularly have abysmally low testing rates, with Sindh practically accounting for 50% of the testing in the country recently.
