Incoming Supreme Court Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed has praised Chief Justice Asif Khosa for the unforgettable mark he had left on the judiciary.
During his address at the full court reference in honour of Chief Justice Asif Khosa, Justice Gulzar stated that as a judge of the Supreme Court and as the chief justice of Pakistan, CJ Khosa had made a deep impact on the jurisprudential growth of law in Pakistan.
Justice Gulzar hailed Asif Khosa as a person of extraordinary intellect and integrity.
He further appreciated the steps taken by Justice Khosa as the chief justice of the Supreme Court, stating that the latter had introduced many innovations to ensure effective and swift delivery of justice.
He also hailed Justice Khosa’s role in the establishment of the Model Courts in Pakistan, which had allowed for the quick resolution of criminal cases, adding that the move had delivered ‘miraculous results’.
Moreover, Justice Gulzar praised CJ Khosa for his evolution of a mechanism to train judges and his establishment of special courts for dealing with gender-based violence.
The incoming chief justice also told the court that the empowerment of the Superintendents of Police to redress criminal complaints, which had been done by Asif Khosa, had played a huge role in reducing the burden on the courts.
He also commended the establishment of the Police Reforms Committee in order to rebuild the image of the police.
Towards the end of his address, Justice Gulzar applauded Justice Khosa’s struggle to harness the power of information technology, which had allowed for video linked courtrooms, Supreme Court’s mobile application, telephonic help line.
