YDA President Abuses Female Doctor For Getting Colleague Terminated Over ‘Sexually Violent’ Remarks

Young Doctors Association (YDA) President Dr Salman Haseeb lashed out at a female doctor, Maryam, after she got his colleague terminated over 'sexually violent' tweets.

Dr Maryam posted screenshots of multiple tweets by a medical officer who worked at Lahore's General Hospital that included 'sexually violent remarks'. The tweets were allegedly posted in response to a picture posted by Maryam of a protest against the recent motorway gang-rape incident, reported Dawn.

After the doctor was terminated on the complaint of Dr Maryam, the YDA president went on a diatribe against Maryam, using abusive language against her over the termination of his colleague. Dr Haseeb also challenged him to get him 'terminated'.

In another tweet, Haseeb said the doctor was terminated over a 'social media fight'.

According to a press statement issued by YDA on Friday, the doctor was terminated 'due to a complaint by PTI social media female warrior'.

The press release stated that action against the doctor was taken 'without hearing him' and giving him a chance to defend himself before authorities.

"We are living in a democracy where everyone should get the freedom of speech," the statement read. "However, PTI officials didn't issue any notice or didn't involve cybercrime cell and heard both parties."

At this Maryam responded that she was not a PTI activist as claimed by Dr Haseeb. She added that the doctor should hold his fellow accountable for making such remarks against her.

I’m not a PTI activist and Govt should protect every citizen from abusive individuals anywhere. Why do you think women should accept sexually violent remarks? You should hold your fellows accountable for their behavior instead of defending. Shame on you. https://t.co/r1XnzkOxgh

'Nurse files case against PIMS official'

A senior female nurse at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has appealed to the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination to take notice of the undue pressure being put on her by the management for accusing the hospital’s Deputy Executive Director of sexual harassment.

The 54-old-year nurse has registered a sexual-harassment case with Karachi Company police against PIMS Deputy Executive Director Dr Iqbal Durrani. In the FIR, the nurse stated she was on routine duty when Dr Durrani summoned her to his office. When she arrived at his office, the officer attempted to sexually assault her but she escaped from the scene unscathed.

Infuriated by social media trolling and management tactics, the senior nurse says, “If you raise your voice against harassers, you should be ready for your character assassination and other pressure tactics, which is the easiest weapon that can be used against a woman in this system and society, no matter what stature or age group you are.”

Since her complaint against the DED, she has received at least five notices, including the notice of her transfer from OPD to the Emergency section of the hospital.
