In yet another instance of moral policing on campuses, Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) has made black abaya mandatory for female students. Male students have been asked to either wear white shalwar qameez or grey dress pants with black shoes.
The notification in this regard was issued on March 9.
As per the new rules, female students of the university are to wear white shalwar qameez that should have full sleeves, scarf, dupatta, chaddar, black abaya and black shoes. Faculty members have been told to wear formal dress with black gown in the classes.
Express Tribune quoted an official of the KUST as saying that the new dress code was enforced on orders of Governor Shah Farman who has told all the universities in the province to introduce a dress code for their female students.
Previously, Hazara University Abbotabad, Bacha Khan University Charsadda and University of Peshawar had enforced similar dress codes which activists had condemned as an act of moral policing.
