50-year-old patient of coronavirus, Saadat Khan, who passed away in Mardan on Wednesday night had arrived in Pakistan on 9th March 2020 at the Peshawar International Airport, after performing Umrah. Following his arrival in Pakistan, the patient had defied all precautionary measures advised by the government and was part of a big gathering to celebrate his umrah, before he was diagnosed with the deadly virus.
According to the diseased's travel history, On 8th March 2020, he departed from KSA via direct flight of Pakistan International Airlines departing from Jeddah International Airport and arriving at Peshawar International Airport, Pakistan on 9th march 2020. During the flight, the patient was accompanied by two of his friends named Alamzeb/male/60years and Kamal ud Din/male/25years. Both friends belong to Mohallah Piran, UC Mangah, District Mardan. All friends went on a visit to KSA for Umrah.
After arriving at his home in UC Mangah, District Mardan on 9th March 2020, family of the patient arranged a grand gathering at lunch on 9th March 2020 where approximately all villagers attended the gathering and greeted the patient. In his home, patient Saadat lived with his wife, three sons, two daughters in law, three daughters and four grandchildren. He lived in a neighbourhood with his relatives in his native village and meets his relatives frequently and also visits their households.
Saadat Khan was received by Dr. Munazza (Consultant Pulmonologist) in DHQ Hospital Mardan on 16th March 2020 with complains of cough, fever and difficulty in breathing. Dr. Munazza notified the case as suspected patient of COVID19, collected nasopharyngeal swab for investigation and sent to NIH Islamabad through DHO Office Mardan. As per patient, he refused to get quarantined in DHQ Hospital Mardan and preferred staying at home.
On 18th March 2020, laboratory confirmed patient Saadat as confirmed case of COVID19 and a team consisting of Dr. Muhammad Kamal PH Coordinator District Mardan and Dr. Farooq Zia DSO-PEI District Mardan went to track the contacts and shift the patient to Mardan Medical Complex Isolation Centre. As Dr. Munazza has been the first healthcare provider to get in contact with the patient and she is herself experiencing symptoms of cough and sore throat, a sample has been taken from Dr. Munazza and dispatched to NIH Islamabad as per SOPs.
According to the contact Alamzeb, he has not been screened at any airport and has only filled a form at Peshawar International Airport.
