Karachi: Sindh police on Thursday baton-charged nurses and subsequently arrested some who were marching towards Chief Minister House Sindh. It is pertained to mention here that nurses have been protesting from the last two weeks and have also given a province wise strike call.
The nurses have boycotted emergency services, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and operation theaters due to which the doctors are forced to work extra reports Dunya News.
The nurses in question belong to various government hospitals of Karachi. Their demands include approval of health professional allowance, an increase in stipend for nursing students, financial powers for nursing school principals and promotion of nurses under the four-tier formula.
Despite promises from local authorities and the chief minister himself, issues of health workers and nurses, in particular, remain unattended by the relevant departments.
“Around 25 male and female nurses have been arrested and the rest of our colleagues have continued the sit-in. We will not culminate our protest unless the government issues a notification,” Eijaz Ahmed, who was leading the protest, told The Express Tribune.
Since arrests took place, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has asked the authorities to release those nurses who were arrested and has urged the health secretary to immediately attend to their demands.
