A petition submitted in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking directives for the government to celebrate the country’s Independence Day on August 15 instead of August 14 has been rejected.
According to a report in Dawn, the petition was filed by a citizen named Hasnain, and was declared non-maintainable by Justice Mamoonur Rashid.
The citizen had named the federal government, the Higher Education Commission and the Punjab Curriculum Board as respondents in the case.
The petitioner had argued that the Indian Independence Act 1947 stated that Pakistan’s independence was to occur on August 15, 1947.
The petitioner had also stated that the federal government, the interior ministry, and other parties were misleading the nation.
