Punjab police on Monday acted against a wedding reception in Multan which was being held in violation of the government's orders against mass gatherings and filed an FIR against the groom. Deputy Commissioner Amir Khattak ordered the crackdown on the wedding.
The provincial government had announced closure of all government institutions and banquet halls in the wake of coronavirus alert in the country.
The arrest took place following the registration of an FIR against the groom, who was standing outside the banquet hall to receive the guests. Police came to the venue and uprooted the tents in a bid to disperse the guests.
The wedding was held at a public school, and the principal of the school has also been named in the FIR.
The number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan continue to rise. The tally currently stands at 211, but is likely to increase, according to health experts. Earlier today, a suspected patient of coronavirus passed away in Lahore's Mayo Hospital. Government authorities have been denying that the deceased was tested positive for coronavirus, but sources say the patient had contracted coronavirus and fell victim of the deadly virus.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is yet to address the nation over the crisis.
