Before being appointed the spokesman of Pakistan Army, Major General Babar Iftikhar was commanding the 1st Armoured Division in Multan. He was commissioned in 6 Lancers in March 1990 The officer graduated from Command and Staff College Quetta, National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, and Royal Command and Staff College, Jordan.
During the anti-Taliban military operation Zarb-e-Azb, he served as the commander of an infantry brigade in North Waziristan.
The ISPR statement stated that Major General Babar Iftikhar has also served as Chief of Staff at the Corps Headquarters.
