ECP Should Have Sought Rangers' Help During Daska By-Polls, Says SC
Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s petition seeking suspension of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)'s order to hold re-election in NA -75 (Daska) constituency. Justice Umar Ata Bandial has said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) made a mistake by not having Rangers deployed during the by-elections in the NA-75 (Daska) last month.

He issued these remarks while hearing a petition by PTI candidate Ali Asjad Malhi, against the ECP's decision to hold re-polling in the constituency after fears that results of certain polling stations were manipulated.

A three-member bench of the top court heard the petition.

Justice Bandial, who was heading the bench, remarked that the 2018 general elections were held amicably due to the deployment of Rangers. "But they were not posted in NA-75, which was a mistake on the part of the Election Commission," he said.

He however maintained that the apex court 'respects constitutional institutions', vowing to assess every aspect of the issue.
Last month, the ECP had declared the Daska by-election null and void after more than 20 presiding officers had gone missing under mysterious circumstances. Re-election in the entire constituency was ordered.
